Blending Design with Preservation
The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State, located within the lush Arboretum, required museum-quality display cases that would not only preserve its growing collection but also blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings and architectural design. EDE was entrusted with the task of engineering, fabricating, and installing all casework for the new space, which was designed by Allied Works.
Invisible Airtight Precision
EDE developed airtight artifact cases using advanced PS-30 acrylic joints to create a clean, uninterrupted view of the objects on display. The invisible seams ensure that nothing detracts from the art, while the precise engineering provides the necessary preservation conditions. These cases, designed for both beauty and functionality, contribute to the overall sense of openness and light in the galleries.
Natural Birch Elegance
In addition to the airtight cases, EDE crafted birch pedestals to support various displays. The natural finish of the birch harmonizes with the palette of local stone used throughout the museum’s pavilions, allowing the display elements to blend with the surroundings. This combination of materials and craftsmanship ensures the exhibition pieces are showcased without overshadowing the art or the architecture.
Immersive Visitor Experience
By delivering a combination of high-performance casework and visually harmonious display elements, EDE has enhanced the visitor experience at the Palmer Museum of Art. These custom solutions integrate seamlessly with the museum’s vision, fostering a deeper connection between the art, the architecture, and the surrounding landscape.
