Art Institute of Chicago - Modern Wing

EDE was humbled to work with one of the world’s premier architects to help create a new modern wing for the museum—now considered one of today’s best modern art facilities. Working with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, EDE used the initial designs to engineer the casework. One of EDE’s challenges was to ensure that the aesthetic demands of the architect worked in perfect unison with the functional requirements of the Art Institute. The process involved determining how to move and install exceptionally tall, thick unframed glass doors and also custom engineer hundreds of LED fiber optic lighting igniters. EDE’s engineering and construction of the project achieved the minimalist vision of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, while the Art Institute of Chicago retained a high degree of functionality
